The Tell-Tale Heart is a short story by Edgar Allan Poe. It was first published in 1843 and is considered a gothic masterpiece. It concerns a man, the narrator, who gradually becomes obsessed with his neighbor and his "evil eye." The narrator is visited by the police, who are investigating the disappearance of the elderly neighbor.
